Pura Vida & Forever: A Costa Rican Love Story

Where did you get married?

"We got married at the Andaz Resort in Peninsula Papagayo, Costa Rica. We chose the Andaz because of the phenomenal facilities and exceptional service.

After visiting Costa Rica a few times before the wedding, we knew it was the perfect place for us to get married. We are both born and raised in Louisiana so food and culture are very important to us and Costa Rica is unmatched in both.

The people are some of the kindest you will ever meet. We thought there was no better place to begin our life together than the place centered around 'Pura Vida' which is said by all Costa Ricans and means, "Pure life, to live a peaceful, life with a deep appreciation of nature, family, and friends. A 'real living' that reflects happiness, well being, and satisfaction.'"

The colors & the celebration

"Green and natural playing off the tropical vibes of costa rica.

I just had 3 maids of honor and they all picked their own dresses.

I did all of my own design for my paper goods with the

help of @czarpress.

We got married on the Andaz's private beach as

the sun began to set. Our guests were seated as Nablo Vibes played Bob Marley on the ukulele.

During cocktail hour, the howler monkeys came out to play in the treetops. Instead of salad, guests were served Costa Rican

ceviche and though we did have a small traditional cake,

we opted to serve our churros for dessert.

Diego Campos played a live saxophone set to get the reception started, and DJ Bryan Laverde let the bride DJ for a bit.

Guests were shuttled back to the after party for

 Pizza and Expresso martinis."

Special moments

"I got ready in pajamas made from my grandmother's wedding dress. She is 90 years old and made it all the way to

 Costa Rica to celebrate us.

I am named after her, and she actually made her own dress.

So wearing pieces of it almost 65 years to the day that

she wore it was extremely special, especially since

my grandfather passed away in 2021.

My mom passed away when I was in high school and my husband's best friend passed away in 2019.

We saved the first seat at our wedding in honor of my mom, his best friend Lewis, and my grandfather Bo.

It was super special to look over during our ceremony and feel as if they were with us."

The Dress.

"When I saw a picture of the Grace gown I went to Elle James with the hopes they would have it.

I had been to several other places and tried on several

dresses but none felt like the one.

Ironically, they had just gotten it the week I came there and I was the first person to try it on there so it felt like it was meant to be.

They were a dream to work with even living 2+ hours away.

When I tried it on I knew it was perfect for my tropical wedding while still being unique but timeless."

From Louisiana to Costa Rica

"My husband was late to our rehearsal on the beach and attended covered in fish blood because he caught a large Mahi Mahi!

The chef at the Andaz cooked Sam's fish and we ate it with our friends the night before the wedding!

Most of our guests arrived several days before our wedding.

Having a vacation with them was so special.

Fun fact: The day after our wedding Louisiana got record breaking amounts of snow that had not been seen in 50+ years.

We got "snowed in" costa rica and most of our guests had to take crazy journeys home.... they left Costa Rica's 80+ degree weather and came back to what Louisianan’s called a blizzard with several days of school and businesses closed after the wedding.

We had prayed for months for perfect weather in costa rica and we got that!

We didn't know we needed to pray for Louisiana's weather too!"
